Why I'm glad I don't wear makeup to work

Lately I have become obsessed with the song "Hallelujah" by Rufus Wainright (originally by Leonard Cohen, I believe.) This morning I listened to it over and over in the car on my way to work and singing along made me weep like a little baby. I don't know what it is about that song, but it just gets me.

Tonight when I got home I downloaded the sheet music and played it about 20 times.

Crichton and Scorp
By the time I got around to working out today, I really wanted a swim. But I only had gym clothes with me. I need to put my old swimsuit in my locker and buy a spare pair of goggles, just in case.

There is one elliptical machine that I always try to snag because it has a perfect view of the pool. I like watching the swimmers--they look so graceful and peaceful. Today the pool was quite full and I felt like I was watching a bizarre choreography. All the swimmers crossing back and forth as if there was some kind of planned rhythm to it. The lanes were like wings. Swimmer enters stage right. Flip-turn stage left.

Instead of turning the machine's TV to the dance music channel, today I watched the 80s Pop channel. And it's official, I'm getting old. I remember when MTV debuted and we thought rock videos were so risque. But watching those old 80s videos made me realize how quaint they are by today's standards. The outfits we thought were SO slutty are prudish compared to what you see now. And the content was so much tamer. Remember when "Like a Virgin" was scandalous? I saw a video for Howard Jones' "Everlasting Love" and it made me smile, it was so sweet. I'm definitely in the mood for a little bit of sweet.
